Thirassia is a small satelite island of Santorini in the Cyclades. With a population of about 270 people, Thirasia lies very close to Santorini—in fact, both formed the same island until the huge volcanic eruption which is estimated to have taken place in 2nd millenium BCE, when it put an end to Minoan civilization and detached Thirasia from main island of Santorini. Look for accommodation in Oia, or try finding hotels in Imerovigli, 8 km to the east, Fira, 9 km to the southeast, Firostefani, 8 km to the east, or Akrotiri, 12 km to the southeast.
