Tel Aviv is the second largest city in Israel, and the largest metropolitan area. It is on the Mediterranean coast, about 60 km north-west of Jerusalem and some 100 km south of Haifa. Look for accommodation in Tel Aviv, or try finding hotels in Bat Yam, 6 km to the southwest, Ramat Gan, or Jaffa, 5 km to the south.

The best and cheapest way to get from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem or vice versa, is with the multiple person taxis that run between the two cities. It was 1995 last time I was in Tel-Aviv but I don't suppose its changed a whole lot. The caital and business centre of Israel, but you don't visit the country for that, get out of Tel-Aviv and to the likes of Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, the Negev and visit some biblical historical places Alex N.
