Somaliland Hotels

Somaliland is an autonomous region in northwestern Somalia. Although the government is trying to establish a modicum of safety there, visiting is still not advised by the governments of Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the US.

Hargeisa

Hargeisa is the capital of the self-proclaimed republic of Somaliland. In recent years, it has been one of the safest places in Somalia, though threats of violence were made against foreigners in May of 2011.

Laascaanood

Laascaanood, also known as Las Anod is a city in Somaliland.

Don't miss the money-changer street, but be a bit careful with your camera. They don't mind having their picture taken, but some of the old q'at-heads that hang around tend to get worked up whenever they see tourists and technology. Just stay cool and you'll be fine. Casson T.

The capital of the land that doesn't officially exist, Somaliland. It is very safe and a great visit. You will need a visa (get it from Addis Ababa) and you will have to change $50 for a rip-off exchange rate on arrival. Other than that, the centre is full of local colour, a market, moneychangers … Charalampos M.
