San Ignacio Hotels

San Ignacio is a small town in the Cayo region of Belize. San Ignacio, or Cayo as it is called, is located on the Macal river, and makes a good and affordable base for exploration of the stunning regions around it, with plenty of day trips to be taken and several decent tour guides willing to take you.

For eastern Belize, this is a great place to get back and recharge. There are all the facilities you may need from laundry and internet to french bakeries that serve pizza (I know, I didn't expect it either). You can get to an ATM here, but take your time. Consider taking the public bus from Belize City to San Ignacio. It's pretty inexpensive, takes around 3 hours, and gives you the chance to interact more with local Belizeans! The jungle lodges nearby will happily pick you up from town (for a fee, of course). Pam M.
