Once a independent village, Santo Amaro was incorporated into the city of São Paulo on the first half of the 20th century.

If you are planning on spending an extended period of time in Sao Paulo City, I would reccommend getting a "Bilhete Unico," which is a type of pass for the bus and metro system.
