Nukus is a city in Qaraqalpakistan, Uzbekistan. It is the capital of the region. However, even by Uzbek standards the town is fairly decrepit and most travellers only stay one night in order to see the Savitzky gallery.

Nukus Travel Tips

The capital city of Karakalpakstan. Nothing special. It is good to stay there only for 2-3h and visit Savitsku Museum (very interesting). Good to do it when u r traveling to Moynaq. Bartek G.
Dead City. The travel guides are usually right, soviet stereotype architecture with wide alleys and empty places, no need to stay here longer. But definitely go to the museum, it mentioned in every book, many artworks are crap but there are some very nice ones for sure! Gregor P.
