Meissen is one of the oldest towns in Saxony, Germany. It was once home to the local bishop and has a huge medieval cathedral and adjoining castle. It is also the place where the first European porcelain was invented! Look for accommodation in Meissen, or try finding hotels in Niederau, 5 km to the east, or Weinboehla, 7 km to the east.

Meissen Travel Tips

Meissen is a little town in Saxony, but famous for its porcelaine manufactury. Just a short ride away from Dresden, the visit of the manufactury is a must. The city centre is very nice and if you do have enough money, buy one of the fantastic porcelaine. Ralph S.
Be sure to buy some porcelain nick-nacks at the Porcelain Museum's store! Great discounts, too! Ildiko K.
