Mdina is in Malta. L'Mdina means fortified place in Arabic and was first created as such by the Romans when they separated it from the rest of the town which became Rabat and fortified it.

The silent city, as it's also known, is an amazing place where you really can step back to days gone by. The narrow streets are haunting and enchanting, with the quintessential Maltese architecture some of the best you'll see. The parish church is brilliant, and there are quite a few good museums … Luke B.
