Kofu Hotels
Kōfu is the capital of Yamanashi prefecture. There are Limited Express trains from Shinjuku to Kofu and then on to Matsumoto, it is also possible, for half the price and an extra hour of travelling, to take local trains, switching at Takao. Look for accommodation in Kofu, or try finding hotels in Kai, or Fuefuki, 8 km to the southwest.

I crashed my motorcycle here on New Years Eve. It's a small cross-roads town with a few local businesses and a Pacinco parlor. Come prepared to speak Japanese and relax... because this isn't exactly a hip town. John M.
