Kimberley Hotels

Kimberley is the capital of the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. Amongst other things, it is famous for its Big Hole, the world's largest hand-dug excavation that was created when thousands of people searched for diamonds at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. Great Hole, a must see. Looks really impressive. I'd recommend a guided tour- they will take you to the room where they've got the most precious diamonds on display. Kimberley itself is not that attractive. Very hot (was there in October). Ola Z.

You can't leave Kimberley without seeing the "Groot Gat" (trans "Big Hole"), take an open tram to the diamond mine, spend money unwisely at the tourist shop and, if its winter, don't forget that jersey! (2008) Bernadette H.
