Kalmykia Tourist Information

Kalmykia is a republic in Southern Russia and is most certainly the only Tibetan Buddhist "nation" of Europe. 20% of the Kalmykia's land belongs to national reserves, parks and hunting plots. In the ancient times the region was home to nomadic tribes - Khazars and later on it was the north-western corner of the mighty Mongol Empire - the Golden Horde.
