İznik is a historical town in Eastern Marmara, located on the eastern shore of Lake İznik; east of Bursa. İznik, or Nicaea /Nikaia as known in ancient times, was the site of the both first and seventh ecumenical councils of Christianity, convened in 325 and 787 respectively.
