Houay Xai Hotels

Houay Xai is the capital of the Laos province of Bokeo. It lies on the banks of the Mekong river, which forms the border to Thailand. Geographical position: 20° 16' N 100° 24' E For most tourists it is seen as a transport stop-over, which is quite a pity. Look for accommodation in Chiang Rai, 74 km to the southwest, or try finding hotels in Huay Xai, 6 km to the south, Mae Chan, 61 km to the southwest, or Chiang Khong.

Given the scarcity of resources and money, few places actually serve meat. While most restaurants have something meatty on the menu, few actually have it in stock. Or at least that was the case when I was there. Alain D.

You can stay in Huayxai for one night before heading down the Mekong to Luang Prabang on a boat. The village is on the river and on the opposite side of it there is Thailand: you can reach it from Chiang Mai easily or from the north of Laos (Luang Namtha). Valentino M.
