Amsterdam Hotels

Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands. With more than one million inhabitants in its urban area, it is the country's largest city and its financial, cultural, and creative centre. Look for accommodation in Amsterdam, or try finding hotels in Amstelveen, 8 km to the south, or Badhoevedorp, 9 km to the southeast.

The Bijlmer, offically Amsterdam South East, is an exclave of Amsterdam, separated from its mainland by Duivendrecht and Diemen.

Jordaan

The Jordaan is a district in the centre of Amsterdam. Originally a working-class neighbourhood, the Jordaan has become one of the most upscale areas of the Netherlands, known for its art galleries, speciality shops and boutique restaurants.

Plantage

Plantage is a leafy neighborhood in the centre of Amsterdam. This article also covers the Eastern Islands.

West

The West of Amsterdam is a vast suburban area, generally off the beaten track for most travellers.

North

The North of Amsterdam is the area north of the river IJ. It is residential district, and with about 86,000 inhabitants, it has the size of a medium-sized city.

By all means visit the markets, but watch out for pick pockets, they are very organised and experienced. Special places to visit include the Royal Palace, Madame Tousaude's for some local wax and if you must, a local coffee shop, but then remember the first item.
